One of the frustrating things about India is, one can never really be proud of an achievement without feeling guilty of some instances of the great failure...
Take for example, religious tolerance. There are so many instances of great harmony between all religions...still, one can never claim the greatness thanks to Gujarat riots and Orissa riots...
Any greatness in scientific achievement can be contrasted with the fact that there are still nearly huge chunk of population without basic sanitary facilities....
And ofcourse, the most famous one...the country has the richest person in the world and also nearly a third of the population below the poverty line...
So, when one was feeling proud after reading an article about Indian women of brilliance and grit, that too in Dawn by an Indian columnist, the next article in BBC,More women die in fires in India, brings one back close to reality!!

Unfortunately we seem to be becoming more intolerant by the day.
Yes, India is full of contradictions and that too glaring ones. However slowly the positive ones have started to make more impact. Living outside of India, one can, as you might also have, feel the new found respect our nation has among the people of the world.
