Why?

Yet another one typed on July 22nd, 2008...
---------------------------------------
Why is that people always stand right in front of the lift, thus blocking the people who come out of the lift?
Why is that people press the lift button again, even when the light indicates that it's already pressed? Is the lift going to come at double the speed?
Why is that morons never use the indicators in their vehicles? Do they decide it on the fly to take turns? Or does it cost anything?
Why is that people never cross the road in a straight line?

Why does the subway guy always misses out on ketchup and tissues?
why does he go on putting everything in the sandwich as usual, when one has told him specifically in the beginning itself that they'll tell the ingredients one by one?
Why is the policewalla standing there and chatting with his colleagues, when there is a mess of traffic jam in the four cornered road?

Frankly, these are the helpless moments...(Ofcourse, not the Subway one because i make him redo the whole stuff again.) Everybody keeps on advising, "Take a chill pill","It happens"... But the problem is, it always happens and it's quite irritating!

Anyway i have started doing one thing...i have started cursing in Tamil with a full knowledge that the fellow will not understand the meaning, but will realize that i am cursing...i know, it sounds like a complete cowardly act. Ofcourse, cursing itself is a helpless act!

Hope, one day, i don't pick up a huge fight...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, one takes stairs, one doesn't find a Subway nearby...2 months since, one has driven the vehicle...
And the saddest of all, everybody seems to know Tamil here :(

-Why do the hyd bus drivers stop the buses on the right most lanes and continue to stop until there is a traffic jam ?
-Why do people keep their mobiles in 'Loud' mode and talk in much louder volume? (who the hell likes to here their lousy song and other details!)
-Why do people check their mobiles when someone else's mobile ring in the vicinity? (Are they trying to show they possess yet another silly phone?)
-Why do people literally fall on you when in a queue?

.. the list goes on buddy..

I would say.. people are stupid!

1. They stand in front because they assume noone is inside the lift and are preoccupied with their own thoughts rather than thinking about what is around them.
2. Indicators.. yeah some people in Ohio are brilliant examples
3. The Subway guy won't do the mistake next time if you complain once or if you reject the sandwich altogether like people do here
4. Chatting relieve pressure. I guess
5. Some people have brown eyes, some have black, some green. We can't complain about that.. We can blog about it though

And since you no longer live there, all the above are pointless points.

@Naveen
People check their mobile when one rings to ensure their own mob isn't drowned out by the sound of the other :P
People falling in a queue is I guess just how a wave travels to the shore - amplitude? increases.

Grammatical error if you want to correct: "Why does the subway guy always miss out on"

charliethotti,

I disagree. We, Indians, lack quite a lot of civic sense. I am not expecting people to have the door open for others when they walk or even follow the courtesy of ladies first...

There can be no justification for Lift incident as well as for the road crossing.

As far as police is concerned, if they want to chat, then take a break. While on duty, that too when it's really needed, one is expected to do the work.

Reg the subway guy, yes i have once rejected the sandwich because he didn't use the suggested bread choice. But then the point is, people never even attempt to do their work perfectly.

Agreed. People do need a heightened sense of responsibility: lack of accountability is also to blame.

A good solution is to join the crowd and lead a blissful life.

[Disclaimer] This is not advise ..But some observations :

You should take example from some foreigners in India. They never seem to crib. They have already read books like 'The Rough Guide to India', 'Lonely Planet guide to India' , and know they are living in a lawless society and never expect things to be right anyway.

Reg lifts : No.they take the stairs..almost always.
Reg queues: They don't stand.they book via agents/online.
Reg indicators : They don't drive. they have a driver.
Reg chatting : This hardly bothers them..as they dont drive ,they listen to audio books/ podcasts during these times (They know traffic in India so they start early)

sujai,
:) Eventhough, we might end up being part of the crowd, our heart will always ponder over these things...

Reg foreigners, they don't stay in India always...so they can ignore it.

Anyway, my brother seems to reply curtly that it's better to take some action or stop cribbing...
I wonder what action can really be taken...

I can't say its impossible to ignore things.. but surely its a difficult thing.
And regarding the actions.. well, nothings gonna change until each n everyone bring in some change.. a change in attitude, a change to improve things..
And ppl give a thought to change only when they are at a loss(mentally/physically/financially) or else some drastic changes in the system(which is a far off thing in India).

And so another debate rages on attitude.. well it's the same for all persons on the planet. Coz we are humans.
