When one is at home, nothing goes as per one's own plan!
It was decided that the carpenter would come at 10am on Sunday morning for an hour discussion, leaving the remaining Sunday morning to watch the first F1 Race of 2009.
Sunday morning 11am : Race day starts... People's opinion were being sought on the new Rules of the season. And great carpenter lands apologizing for an hour delay.
TV gets switched off.
30 min into the discussion with carpenter, an old family friend and his daughter, my childhood buddy, enter home.
Carpenter goes and the whole family is chatting with the visitors. At around 12.30pm, they are planning to leave.
Meanwhile, my great mother has prepared lunch. (I can never understand how she manages both conversation and the lunch preparation!) Now she insists that my buddy should eat, taste her Rasam in particular. Apparently, when we were kids, my mom's Rasam was my buddy's favourite. And my buddy, even after so many years, seemed to pounce on the suggestion :) or probably, out of respect. So, i end up serving her.
After lunch, few more mins of conversation. And it was 1.30pm when they left.
TV is switched on. Jenson Button is giving press conference after his Australian win! Where is Ferrari in the standing? What happened in the race? How did Hamilton move 13 places in the grid? No idea... Yes, one can read in websites, but nothing can compensate for watching the complete live race!
And repeat telecast is over today at 12.45pm in Star sports!
What a great way to start watching the 2009 season!!
Maybe, one should buy Tata Sky!!!

Vodafone Ad
This is quite an amazing ad. The emotion portrayed in the Ad is totally perfect and 100% true.
But it has few flaws as per me :)
As far as i know, girls never reveal their weight to many people...Also, when one loses so much weight, one always expects others to notice the difference and start enquiring about the achievement ;)
And the one thing which girls do after the weight loss is indulge in a shopping spree :)
Finally, the Ad girl seems to weigh more than 55kgs...or maybe it was a closeup shot effect!

Into The Wild
two years he walks the earth.no phone, no pool, no pets, no cigarettes.
ultimate freedom, an extremist, an aesthetic voyager, whose home is the road.
now after 2 rambling years comes the final and greatest adventure.the climatic battle to kill the false being within and victoriously conclude the spiritual revolution.
no longer to be poisoned by civilization,he flees, and walks alone upon the land to become lost into the wild.
all they know is they are innocent, they would never hurt anybody.you are going to do things you would never imagine to do.
why would i want a new car? i don't need a new car, i don't want a new car.
everything has to be difficult.
i just don't want anything.
chris measured himself by a rigorous moral code.
it was inevitable that chris would break way. and when he did, he would do it with characteristic immoderation.
it should not be denied that being footloose has always exhilarated us,it is associated in ours minds for escape.
absolute freedom and the road has always led us west.
i need a name.
i don't need money. makes people cautious. u can't depend entirely on leaves and berries. i don't know if u want to depend on much more than else.
i'll paraphrase thoreau here
rather than love, than money, than faith, than fame, than fairness, give me truth.
they cast us as both judges and as accused.
well, my friend, all is not well on the hippie front.it's funny how things happen at particular times. i've loved that woman for a lot of years. we've been going thru this thing real quiet.
some ppl feel like they don't deserve love, they walk away quietly into empty space trying to close the gap to the past.
something i got to get over sometime though.
the sea's only gifts are harsh blows, occasionally the chance to feel strong. i don't know much about sea.thatsthe way it's here, important in life not necessarilly to be strong but feel strong to measure ur self atleast once.to find urself atleast once
such is the way of world, u can never know. just where to put all ur faith and how'll it go?
the fragility of a crystal is not weakness, but fineness.
paddle down without a helmet....struggles in alaska.
if we admit that human life can be ruled by reason, the possibility of life is destroyed.
my days were exciting when i was penniless.the freedom and simple beauty is just too much to give up.
people softened by the forced reflection that comes with loss.
there was clearly felt the presence of a force not bound to be kind to man.it was a place of heathenism and superstitious rites to be inhabited by men of nearer of kin to the rocksand to the wild animals than we are.
children can be pretty harsh when it comes to their parents.
what the hell are u running?
u know i can ask the same question back. except i know the answer already.
oh u do. do u?
u got to get back out in the world! get back out on the road.
i have had a happy life and thank the lord.goodbye ad may god bless all.to call each thing by its right name.
Happiness only real when shared.

I have always felt that sadness is the thing which gets remembered at the end...
Interestingly, my own brother was surprised to hear this statement and replied that for him happiness is the thing which gets remembered...
Maybe, generalization doesn't work then.
If we look back in life, one ends up seeing quite a few life altering moments...these moments would've moved life from x lane to y lane....and at later times, one does really end up wondering or maybe wishing how life would've been, if the moment resulted in continuing in x lane itself.
Now, this doesn't mean one is regretting the y lane path or maybe, one does regret a bit but learnt to take up life as it goes or as it comes...
Maybe, this lane change was for one's real good...but then, i guess it's our own convincing or rather consoling point. Because, when we have never continued in x lane, how can we compare that with current y lane?
Anyway these are the moments, which really forces one to believe in Karma... Because, sometimes, at the end of the day, no matter how much ever one tries, it just doesn't happen at the right time. No matter, how well one is prepared and give in their 100%, there are just some random factors involved and hence results in these events. It makes one skeptical as what more can be done after giving in 100%. And this results in one questioning oneself as whether the 100% was infact right at the first place, which inturn leads to self doubt...
And when the moment is lost, one wonders what's the point in trying again? Because, the collapse of that moment would've had a spiralling effect over many other things... one ends up really picking up the pieces.
Maybe, this is where hope comes into picture...
Anyway, just because one is living, it doesn't mean that there are no wounds...
Maybe, one is yet to find the right cure...
The problem with these life altering events is, it slowly erodes away the innocence of an individual, forces one to reality and inturn turns the person into a practical, skeptical human being. It makes one skeptical to the extent that the person believes that good things never happen and even if it happens, it's out of pure luck.
hmmm....maybe, it's time to stop ruminating over these thoughts...
Here is a nice coldplay song in slightly similar lines :)

In search of a symbol...
India is in search of a Rupee symbol. It's open only for Resident Indians and the symbol has to be in the Indian National Language Script or a visual representation...
As per BBC, according to one estimate, when the euro was introduced in 1999 it cost Europe's biggest companies more than $50bn to update their computer systems to deal with the changeover.
Here is another article from BBC regarding this Indian search.
Apparently, looks like Russia has been searching for a rouble symbol since 1999.
Nothing wrong in seeking for a new identity provided it adds value to the system! And i wonder how a symbol is going to add value to Rupee or Indian economy!!
Anyway, my first thought was why not it be a "0" (zero) with a horizontal line in the middle. Afterall, aren't we the guys who invented the concept of zero which in Sanskrit implies void, which in turn implies the Gandhian value of not attaching great importance to money or even buddhist value of not being materialistic... ;)
And the next thought was why not it be a half Aum symbol, only the 3 part with a horizontal line in the middle. Afterall, it is supposed to be a mystical symbol and symbolizes the Indian culture. But then, i rejected it as this goes against our pseudo secular nature ;)
Then came the thought of swastik symbol, which reminds of the Nazi era.
Finally, the best symbol could be an "I" with a horizontal line in the middle. "I" implies India. But then the problem is, in future when Rupee becomes a standard currency of the SAARC Region, "I" might not go well with other countries. (Thanks to a comment mentioned in one of the BBC articles)
And, there are 2 comments in favour of zero with a horizontal line in the BBC article. Apparently, one person wants to replicate national flag in the zero by having two horizontal lines. But this faces the same problem as the above "I" symbol. Maybe it can be a plain zero with 2 horizontal lines.
Finally, Here is a typeface designer's comments regarding the symbol in the BBC station.

World's Greatest Car Chase
BBC has launched a new F1 Promotional video and it's super cool.
Check it out here...
Is it because of Lewis Hamilton, BBC thinks there is going to be renewed interest in F1 this season?
I hope Ferrari is back in the podium and 1st in the standings this year for full world, well deserved domination :)
After all, now i have one more reason to support Kimi...
Thanks to this link, got to know about BBC F1 blogs.
Maybe, this year, as an additional torture to this blog readers , i shall try posting every F1 race review! :)
And one can never end a post related to F1 without cribbing that Schumi is not behind the wheels on a race track :(
Just as an attempt of consolation, one shall post a great picture of great schumi in this blog :) And there is no other way one can come out of an upset mood due to the recession.

Credit goes to some link in this internet for this picture...It's been more than 3-4 years since i downloaded this image, and i don't remember which link needs to be credited :)

Contradictions....
One of the frustrating things about India is, one can never really be proud of an achievement without feeling guilty of some instances of the great failure...
Take for example, religious tolerance. There are so many instances of great harmony between all religions...still, one can never claim the greatness thanks to Gujarat riots and Orissa riots...
Any greatness in scientific achievement can be contrasted with the fact that there are still nearly huge chunk of population without basic sanitary facilities....
And ofcourse, the most famous one...the country has the richest person in the world and also nearly a third of the population below the poverty line...
So, when one was feeling proud after reading an article about Indian women of brilliance and grit, that too in Dawn by an Indian columnist, the next article in BBC,More women die in fires in India, brings one back close to reality!!

Why?
Yet another one typed on July 22nd, 2008...
---------------------------------------
Why is that people always stand right in front of the lift, thus blocking the people who come out of the lift?
Why is that people press the lift button again, even when the light indicates that it's already pressed? Is the lift going to come at double the speed?
Why is that morons never use the indicators in their vehicles? Do they decide it on the fly to take turns? Or does it cost anything?
Why is that people never cross the road in a straight line?
Why does the subway guy always misses out on ketchup and tissues?
why does he go on putting everything in the sandwich as usual, when one has told him specifically in the beginning itself that they'll tell the ingredients one by one?
Why is the policewalla standing there and chatting with his colleagues, when there is a mess of traffic jam in the four cornered road?
Frankly, these are the helpless moments...(Ofcourse, not the Subway one because i make him redo the whole stuff again.) Everybody keeps on advising, "Take a chill pill","It happens"... But the problem is, it always happens and it's quite irritating!
Anyway i have started doing one thing...i have started cursing in Tamil with a full knowledge that the fellow will not understand the meaning, but will realize that i am cursing...i know, it sounds like a complete cowardly act. Ofcourse, cursing itself is a helpless act!
Hope, one day, i don't pick up a huge fight...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Now, one takes stairs, one doesn't find a Subway nearby...2 months since, one has driven the vehicle...
And the saddest of all, everybody seems to know Tamil here :(

A remark from Human :)
This post was typed on Jun 21st,2008...somehow, it never made to Published list. Infact, this was typed while watching the programme...
The friend mentioned here is Human. Hope you remember this :)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
We are watching the programme,"Lords of 1983".
Before the first break, Rajdeep Sardesai, as usual in his loud voice, was telling,"After this break, Lets hear from the team as what they did after winning the world cup".
My friend,"What a junk question? Probably they would have boozed whole night and flirted with hundreds of women. Such a stupid question".
I just couldn't stop laughing after hearing her remarks.
Then came another stupid question from Rajdeep to Yashpal,"So were you the dancer of the team?". Yashpal replies,"Yes. I danced Bangra. Even the whole team did". Rajdeep asks,"Can you do that now?". Yashpal replies,"Ofcourse, i can".
Who wants to see his dancing now?
Rajdeep never seemed to have any proper questions to ask. He did seem to continue with lot more stupid questions. He should stick to only interviewing/conducting programmes with Politicians.
On the other hand, 1983 team seemed to be a very fun loving gang. Probably these CNN-IBN guys should've let the team conduct the programme by themselves...
